By now, pretty much everyone has seen the Jean-Claude Van Damme splits ad for Volvo. But, one of our goals for the Brands on YouTube series is to show you just how deep the YouTube ecosystem really goes, especially when it comes to the fans and earned media.
Paid Media Example: The Epic Split feat. Jean Claude Van Damme
First, the star of the show. This ad has only been out since November 13, but it is already on Unruly’s list for the top 20 most shared advertisements of 2013. And, when it comes to earned media, it has spawned tons of spoofs and recreations, including an 11 million view hit from Channing Tatum promoting his upcoming sequel to 21 Jump Street.
The official video has garnered over 54 million views as of this writing.

Now, in contrast to the wildly popular, here is a bit of the obscure. Truck drivers might not be the first thing you think of when it comes to YouTube, but there are some prolific channels out there of truckers chronicling their lives on the road. Vlogging truckers are just one of many small gems on YouTube. And, this “tour” style of video exists for just about any car on the market.
